Who Can Enter

Anyone who is at least 13 years of age as of race day can enter the Pigman Triathlon. The field will be limited to 750 participants.

2024 USA Triathlon Iowa State Championships – High School

The 2024 Pigman Triathlon is the USAT Iowa High School Championships.  The Event is open to incoming 9th Graders through outgoing 12th graders.  The Championships will use the Pigman Sprint Distance triathlon as the Championship race.  High school students should sign up for the Sprint Distance Triathlon.
High School Athletes receive special discounted pricing, their own start wave, specially designated high school bike racks in transition, and some extra race swag.

2024 USA Triathlon Iowa State Championships – Age Group

For this category, participants will race against others determined by their USA Triathlon age.  This age is how old your are on December 31st of the year. Pigman age groups are: 13-14, 15-17, 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84 and 85+.

To enter as an Age Group participant you must indicate your preference during the completion of the entry form while signing up for the race.

2024 USA Triathlon Iowa State Championships – Club

For the Club Championships we will be using Cross Country Scoring.  To be scored a club will require at least 3 finishers in the Male and Female Categories. Each of the scored participants will receive points equal to their overall place.Ie. 1st place receives 1 point. 2nd place 2 pts, 3rd place 3 points and so on….The team with a combination of the top 3 male and 3 female finishers with the lowest total points will win the Club Championship.

Club racing does not replace the Age Group, Clydesdale/Athena or Elite categories. Club members still race as individuals but they are also scored via cross-country style for their club.

If you are not familiar with cross-country team scoring, here is how it works. If scored by hand you would go through all the results and throw out any finisher not on a team. Then you see how many there are who finished for each team. If any team has less than Six finishers and or less than three female finishers, they are thrown out and movement occurs again. Finally, the places of the top three Male and female finishers on each team are added up. Low score wins.

To enter as a Club, you must include the club name during the completion of the entry form while signing up for the race.

Club Spirit Award given to the club showing the most enthusiasm and support for one another.

Elite Category

This category allows all that have a legitimate shot at winning the Pigman and the opportunity of not having to race through the crowd to get to the front of the pack. Elite racers will start in the first wave(s) of the race. One of these individuals will most likely be the overall winner of the Pigman. However, Age Group or Clydesdale/Athena participants starting at a later time can end up as the winner of the race if their net time is faster than the Elite racers.

To enter as an Elite racer you must indicate your preference during the completion of the entry form while signing up for the race.

Note: Participants of the Elite category are not eligible for Age Group awards and race management has the final say as to who will be allowed to enter this category.

Collegiate Category

The Pigman Triathlon is part of the Midwest Collegiate Triathlon Conference (MWCTC) race schedule.  Participants will represent their respective school in the Pigman Olympic Distance Triathlon.  Collegiate racers will have a special collegiate area in transition, and a collegiate start wave.

Clydesdale/Athena Category

Instead of racing against others determined by an age, this category allows participants to compete based on their weight. If you are a man weighing 220 pounds plus or are a women weighing 165 pounds and over you qualify to race in the Clydesdale/Athena category.

To enter as a Clydesdale or Athena you must indicate your preference during the completion of the entry form while signing up for the race.

If you meet the weight requirements of this category you are not required to enter the Pigman as a Clydesdale/Athena. The Pigman will not select the category. It is up to the individual racer to select, the Clydesdale/Athena, the Age Group or the Elite category. A Clydesdale/Athena will not be eligible for duplicate awards. There will only be one division for men and one for women.

Relay Team Category

Relay Teams are welcome at the Pigman Triathlon. Competition is relay style with two or three separate individuals. One participant will do the swim, one will do the bike and one will do the run.

There are three divisions in the team category. The Male division team is made up of all male members. A Female division team is made up of all female members. The Coed division team has members from both genders.

To enter as a Relay Team you must indicate your preference during the completion of the entry form while signing up for the race. You will also be required to choose a Male, Female or Coed division during this process.

Note: You cannot race as both an individual and as a team. For two person teams, one of the participants will do two of the events.

Awards

The top three overall male and female finishers and the top 3 finishers in each of the other categories for sprint and olympic distances (Age Group, Clydesdale, Athena, Relay Teams) will receive an award. Award ceremonies will follow completion of each race.
